Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous three game, Hillside brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. Tierney Bailey made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Ava Duncan was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in February. Linay Bullock also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Hillside kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.
Hillside's win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-7. As for East Chapel Hill, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.
East Chapel Hill beat Hillside 9-6 in their previous meeting on April 8th. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
