Football Game Preview: Ray Texans vs. Carroll Tigers

Ray and Carroll are an even 5-5 against one another since October of 2015, but not for long. The Texans will face off against the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Ray will be strutting in after a victory while Carroll will be coming in after a loss.

Ray barely beat Corpus Christi Moody the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Texans took their matchup on Friday with ease, bagging a 55-21 win over the Trojans. The victory continues a trend for the Texans in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won four in a row.

Ray got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Tripp Thompson out in front who threw for 193 yards and four touchdowns on only 11 passes, and also rushed for 72 yards and one score. Thompson's passing game has become a key predictor of the Texans' success: the team is 4-1 when his passer rating is 110 or higher, but only 1-2 otherwise. Huzefa Ullah was in the mix too, providing Ray with two TDs.

Ray didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. Jason Gutierrez picked up that interception and then proceeded to rub salt in the wound by taking it back the other way for a touchdown. He has been hot recently, having also posted eight or more total tackles the last three times he's played. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Carroll's offense. They were outmatched by Gregory-Portland and fell 60-0. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 645th, while the Wildcats are ranked 217th).

Carroll's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 4-4. As for Ray, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3.

Ray might still be hurting after the 31-10 loss they got from Carroll in their previous matchup back in November of 2024. Can the Texans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
