Basketball Recap: Clearbrook-Gonvick Takes a Loss

Clearbrook-Gonvick was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a blow against the Kelliher/Northome Mustangs, falling 100-29. While losing is never fun, the Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 338th, while the Mustangs are ranked 128th).

Leading Kelliher/Northome to victory were Kylee Binkley and Kate Thayer. Binkley dropped a double-double with 39 points and ten boards, while Thayer dropped a triple-double with 24 points, 13 rebounds, and 13 steals. Thayer has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 51 times she's played. Allison Lundin was another key player, going 7-for-13 to rack up 16 points along with six assists and six boards.

Clearbrook-Gonvick's defeat dropped their record down to 6-15. As for Kelliher/Northome, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clearbrook-Gonvick will square off against Pine River-Backus at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Kelliher/Northome, they will take on Polk County West [Climax/Fisher] at 3:00 p.m. on Monday.
