Softball Recap: Russell Comes Up Short

Russell extended their losing streak to seven on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 3-13 in the process. They came up short against the Billings West Golden Bears, falling 12-4. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Golden Bears this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-6 back in April.

Russell saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Taylor Thompson, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

As for Billings West, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-5. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 3-13 Russell and 3-12 Great Falls.

On Billings West's side, Tatum Bush spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on eight hits and racked up 15 Ks. Bush has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ryane Viker, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Mielle Kavran, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Russell will challenge rival Great Falls at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Billings West is set to take on their familiar foe Billings Senior at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
