Football Game Preview: Fort Stockton Panthers vs. Seminole Indians

Fort Stockton is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Friday. They will face off against the Seminole Indians at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

If Seminole heads into halftime all tied up, they better play a good second half: that's when Fort Stockton took over last week. The Panthers were the clear victors by a 42-21 margin over Big Spring on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Steers: they've now won four in a row.

Fort Stockton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Gerry Diaz, who threw for 273 yards and four TDs, and also rushed for 86 yards. Diaz's passing game has become a key predictor of the Panthers' success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-2 otherwise. Another rusher making a difference was Nick Almendarez, who rushed for 151 yards.

Fort Stockton didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Diego Ramos and Fabian Ramirez.

Meanwhile, the third road contest was the charm for Seminole, as they earned their first away win of the season. They enjoyed a cozy 45-28 victory over Hereford on Friday. The Indians pushed the score to 42-21 by the end of the third, a deficit the Whitefaces cut but never quite recovered from.

A big part of Seminole's win came down to the chemistry between Dominick Higgins and his top target Logan McCormick. Higgins threw for 327 yards and six touchdowns while completing 82.8% of his passes while McCormick picked up 124 receiving yards and three scores. Thanks to that big game, Higgins is now up to 20 passing touchdowns on the season.

Fort Stockton's record now sits at 4-2. As for Seminole, they picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 4-2.

Fort Stockton took a serious blow against Seminole in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, falling 62-17. Thankfully for the Panthers, Wyatt Holmstrom (who threw for 319 yards and three TDs while completing 88.5% of his passes, and also rushed for 51 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only six carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
