Basketball Recap: Lockland Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Jaylah Smith and Princes Webster

Lockland lost against Seven Hills back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Lockland Panthers came up short against the Seven Hills Stingers, falling 55-31. The Panthers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-9.

Despite the loss, Lockland had strong showings from Princes Webster, who went 6 of 12 on her way to 18 points and eight rebounds, and Jaylah Smith, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 12 boards. Webster has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 12 times she's played. Tiera Helton was another key player, putting up two points.

Even though they lost, Lockland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 13 consecutive matchups.

Reagan Licata was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds for Seven Hills. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Licata has scored at least a third of Seven Hills' points. Sabrina Donovan also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Lockland dropped their record down to 5-9 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Seven Hills, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.

Lockland has already played their next game, a 54-34 win against St. Bernard-Elmwood Place on the 18th. As for Seven Hills, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 35-34 loss against Norwood on the 16th.
