Softball Recap: Van Vleck Wins Going Away Against Hempstead

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Sacred Heart, Van Vleck was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They blew past the Hempstead Bobcats 10-0. The win continues a trend for the Leopards in their matchups with the Bobcats: they've now won six in a row.

Not much got past Lakyn Matchett, who gave up just five hits and racked up 16 Ks to keep Hempstead off the board. Those 16 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Matchett.

At the plate, Van Vleck got a massive performance out of Ierial Garcia, who scored a run and stole Four bases. while going 3-for-4. Those four stolen bases gave Garcia a new career-high. Kylie Sazera was another key player, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, one triple, and one run.

Van Vleck's victory bumped their record up to 8-3-2. As for Hempstead, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4.

Looking ahead, Van Vleck will be playing in front of their home fans against Hitchcock at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Van Vleck 3, Hitchcock 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Hempstead, they will venture away from home to challenge East Bernard at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The game will give East Bernard their first taste of in-conferenceaction this season.
