Basketball Game Preview: Peak to Peak Pumas vs. DSST: Cedar Falcons

The Peak to Peak Pumas are taking a road trip to take on the DSST: Cedar Falcons at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Peak to Peak sitting on seven straight wins and DSST: Cedar on three.

Last Saturday, Peak to Peak earned a 45-33 victory over Pagosa Springs. Given the Pumas' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while the Pirates are ranked 238th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Peak to Peak's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tysen Burton led the charge by going 6 of 11 en route to 12 points and four steals. The dominant performance also gave Burton a new career-high in blocks (two). Another player making a difference was Elijah Eschmeyer, who posted 11 points in addition to six blocks and five boards.

Peak to Peak smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask DSST: Cedar). They breezed by KIPP Denver Collegiate to the tune of 81-40 on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

The victory got DSST: Cedar back to even at 3-3. As for Peak to Peak, their win bumped their record up to 7-0.
