Baseball Game Preview: Pungo Christian Academy Raiders vs. Albemarle School Colts

Pungo Christian Academy is 9-1 against Albemarle School since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Raiders will head out on the road to square off against the Colts at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Pungo Christian Academy has three straight victories, Albemarle School has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

While Pungo Christian Academy's win against Crossroads Christian wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Raiders had just enough and edged out the Colts 9-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Raiders have posted since May 1, 2024.

Evan Woolard and Jackson Walker made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Woolard struck out nine batters over 3.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off only two hits. Meanwhile, Walker pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off one hit. Woolard has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Woolard scored a run while going 1-for-3, while Walker went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Those two RBI gave Walker a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carr Eagles, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Pungo Christian Academy is undefeated when Eagles posts two or more runs, but 3-5 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Alligood, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Albemarle School's offense. They came up short against Lawrence Academy on Thursday, falling 17-0.

Albemarle School's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Pungo Christian Academy, their record is now 7-5.

Everything went Pungo Christian Academy's way against Albemarle School when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Pungo Christian Academy made off with a 13-3 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Raiders since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
