Baseball Game Preview: West Point Pointers vs. Surry County Cougars

West Point is 0-4 against Surry County since March of 2017 but things could change on Tuesday. The Pointers will venture away from home to take on the Cougars at 5:30 p.m.

West Point fell victim to Northumberland and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They came up short against the Indians, falling 20-0.

Meanwhile, Surry County had to kick off their season on the road on Thursday, but they showed no ill effects. They came out on top against Sussex Central by a score of 6-1. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Tanner Keckler made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Keckler was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2025.

In other batting news, Cayden Drew was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Dawson Keckler, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

West Point's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Surry County, their record now sits at 1-0.

West Point might still be hurting after the 12-3 defeat they got from Surry County when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Can the Pointers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
