Baseball Game Preview: Sumter Gamecocks vs. Cheraw Braves

The Sumter Gamecocks will head out on the road to face off against the Cheraw Braves at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Sumter sitting on four straight wins and Cheraw on 11.

Sumter's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They blew past Ridge View 7-0.

Meanwhile, Cheraw posted their closest victory since April 9th on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Gray Collegiate Academy 5-3.

Cheraw let Kaden Johnson and Tyler Tolson run wild. Johnson went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double, while Tolson went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Brendan Pace, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one double.

Cheraw hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive matchups.

Cheraw pushed their record up to 21-3 with the victory, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games. As for Sumter, their record is now 14-11.

Sumter suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Cheraw in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Gamecocks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
