Baseball Game Preview: Anderson Cubs vs. West Valley Eagles

For the second straight game, Anderson will face off against West Valley. The Cubs are taking a road trip to challenge the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Anderson has struggled recently with seven defeats in a row, while West Valley will arrive with 12 straight wins.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Anderson's offense. They lost 25-0 to West Valley on Tuesday. Considering the last time the Cubs couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.

For West Valley's part, Mason Mcfadden was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Mcfadden has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Gunner Church was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Degan Palos was another key player, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with five runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

West Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .640. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

West Valley's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Anderson, their loss dropped their record down to 1-11.
