Recap: Scammon Bay Eagles vs. Chevak Comets
Even though the Chevak Comets scored an imposing 59 points on Saturday, the Scammon Bay Eagles still came out on top. Scammon Bay walked away with a 68-59 victory over Chevak. Given Scammon Bay's advantage in MaxPreps' Alaska basketball rankings (they are ranked sixth, while Chevak is ranked 44th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Josiah Sundown was his usual excellent self, scoring 24 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Albert Yunak, who scored eight points.
Scammon Bay has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. As for Chevak, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Scammon Bay on the road again on Saturday and play against Hooper Bay at 8:30 p.m. on January 20th. Hooper Bay is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games. As for Chevak, they will head out on the road to square off against Unalakleet at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Unalakleet is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
