Madawaska is 0-9 against Katahdin since May of 2018 but things could change on Saturday. The Owls will venture away from home to square off against the Cougars at 1:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Madawaska was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Central Aroostook on Tuesday. The Owls blew past the Panthers 13-3. The win continues a trend for the Owls in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won eight in a row.

Matt Ayotte and Isaac Beaulieu made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Ayotte struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Beaulieu tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those ten strikeouts gave Ayotte a new career-high. At the plate, Ayotte went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Beaulieu got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Josh Querze, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with six stolen bases, four runs, and one double. Those six stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ian Albert, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Madawaska always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .558. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Central Aroostook only posted an OBP of .292.
Meanwhile, Katahdin made easy work of Washburn on Monday and carried off a 16-4 victory.
Like Madawaska, Katahdin also got a great game from a two-way player: Connor Edwards. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. Edwards was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with five stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Josh Martin was incredible, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Calvin Richardson was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
The win got Madawaska back to even at 1-1. As for Katahdin, their record now sits at 2-0.
Madawaska couldn't quite finish off Katahdin when the teams last played back in June of 2024 and fell 5-3. Can the Owls avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
