Softball Game Preview: Greenfield Green Wave vs. Turners Falls Thunder

Greenfield and Turners Falls are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Green Wave will be playing at home against the Thunder at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a four-game winning streak alive.

Greenfield proved they can win big on Monday (they won by 13) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past Taconic 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Green Wave have posted since May 11, 2024.

MacKenzie Paulin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Grace Laurie, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Olivia Lemay was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, Turners Falls faced Frontier Regional in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Thunder narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Red Hawks 3-2.

Turners Falls pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Greenfield, their win bumped their record up to 7-2.
