Baseball Game Preview: Williamsburg Blue Pirates vs. North Star Cougars

The Williamsburg Blue Pirates will head out to square off against the North Star Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Williamsburg came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against West Branch, falling 17-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Blue Pirates have suffered since April 29, 2024.

Andrew Clark made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jase McCall, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-5.

Meanwhile, North Star unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They lost 17-0 to McConnellsburg on Tuesday. The loss continues a trend for the Cougars in their meetings with the Spartans: they've now lost three in a row.

North Star saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cash Hawkins, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.

Williamsburg now has a losing record of 1-2. As for North Star, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.

Williamsburg suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to North Star when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can Williamsburg avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
