League recap: Hart County tops Jackson County to extend winning streak

AAA Region 8 recap October 22, 2013

Hart County extended the longest winning streak in AAA Region 8 this week by beating Jackson County, 54-14. This was the team's seventh consecutive win.

Elbert County scaled the state rankings by moving to 98 from 153 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Blue Devils climbed the ranks as a result of defeating North Oconee 28-23.

East Jackson's dynamic duo of Austin Beauchamp and Casey Reed proved to be unstoppable against Morgan County, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Beauchamp threw for 144 yards and 2 touchdowns and Reed had 90 yards receiving. Caleb Hill helped East Jackson's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 54 yards.

Mecole Hardman was a passing and rushing force as Elbert County bested the Titans. He completed 2 passes for 29 yards and also ran for 166 yards. Hardman's key target this week was Devon Turman, who caught 2 passes for 29 yards.

Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Panthers' Jacob Lewis and Xavier Harper have proven to be a lethal combination. Lewis has thrown for 1,217 yards this season, while Harper has 27 catches for 500 yards. Kawon Bryant from North Oconee leads the league in rushing with 1,710 yards.

A big matchup in AAA Region 8 this week will be when Sid Fritts' team takes on Hart County. As it stands, the Blue Devils are in fourth, while William DeVane's team is in first.

Jackson County lost to the Bulldogs 54-14 last week, the largest margin of any game.
