Basketball Recap: Joelys Rodriquez Key Part of a Team Effort in Hornets Win

Weeki Wachee won the last time they faced Citrus and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Weeki Wachee Hornets strolled past the Citrus Hurricanes with points to spare, taking the game 53-38. Given the Hornets' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 220th, while the Hurricanes are ranked 450th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Weeki Wachee's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Joelys Rodriquez led the charge by putting up 13 points and six steals. Rodriquez is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least three every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Rayana Coleman, who posted five points in addition to eight steals and seven boards.

Weeki Wachee is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.6 points per game. As for Citrus, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.

Weeki Wachee will challenge Nature Coast Tech at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Citrus, they will take on Crystal River at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
