Softball Recap: Coral Springs Charter Beats Coral Glades for Their Sixth Straight Victory

It was a proper cat-fight when Coral Springs Charter took on Coral Glades on Monday. The Panthers blew past the Jaguars 11-1. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won 12 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Courtney Wahlbrink was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

In other pitching news, Sophia Bertorelli looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Gio Gurgel, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Shelby Stephens, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

The victory was the sixth in a row for Coral Springs Charter, bringing their record up to 17-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Coral Glades, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-9.

Coming up, Coral Springs Charter will take on St. Thomas Aquinas in a tournament on Tuesday. Coral Glades does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
