Softball Recap: Newton South Sets Scoring Season-High Against East Boston

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Newton South). They blew past the East Boston Jets 37-3 on Monday. The Lions have beaten the Jets the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Jets has come to flipping the script.

Sophie Nathanson was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Nathanson was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Zoe Weiner was a standout: she went a perfect 6-for-6 with one home run, nine RBI, and three runs. Those nine RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Hannah Schwagwer, who fired off two home runs, four runs, and four RBI while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Newton South hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as East Boston struck out seven times.

Newton South's win bumped their record up to 8-4. As for East Boston, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season.

Newton South will have a chance to go back-to-back against East Boston: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
