Football Game Preview: Sleepy Hollow Horsemen vs. Pearl River Pirates

The Sleepy Hollow Horsemen will face off against the Pearl River Pirates at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Sleepy Hollow will be strutting in after a victory while Pearl River will be coming in after a defeat.

Pearl River better have a healthy lead at halftime, because if Sleepy Hollow's game on Friday is any indication, that's when Sleepy Hollow really gets things going. The Horsemen were the clear victors by a 31-10 margin over Nanuet. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Horsemen considering their 13-point performance the contest before.

Brayden Richardson was his usual excellent self, rushing for 264 yards and four scores while picking up 12.6 yards per carry. Those 264 rushing yards gave him a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Pearl River came up short against Bronxville on Friday, falling 41-21. The loss was the Pirates' first of the season.

Sleepy Hollow will need to focus on slowing down Kieran Fitzgerald, one of several Pearl River players who made an impact when they last played. He picked up 129 receiving yards and one TD. The bulk of those receiving yards came from one huge play: a catch that gained an incredible 82 yards. TJ Lanese was another key player, throwing for 251 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 10.9 yards per attempt.

Having lost for the first time this season, Pearl River fell to 3-1. As for Sleepy Hollow, their win bumped their record up to an identical 3-1.

Sleepy Hollow took a serious blow against Pearl River in their previous meeting back in September of 2023, falling 49-7. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Horsemen were down 28-0.
