Football Recap: Dory Thimote Leads Gateway's Defense on Wednesday

The matchup between Gateway and Tohopekaliga on Wednesday hardly resembled the 14-10 effort from their previous meeting. The Panthers fell 41-30 to the Tigers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Panthers of the 14-10 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2021.

Although Gateway took the loss, they still got scores from Johnny Reyes II and Nydrell Thigpen.

Even if they lost, Gateway's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. In that department, Dory Thimote was the leader with 2.5.

Tohopekaliga's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Sabby Meassick, who threw for 402 yards and five TDs while completing 76.9% of his passes. Meassick's passing game has become a key predictor of the Tigers' success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 2-5 otherwise. Xaevez Brown helped Meassick out on the ground, rushing for 114 yards and one touchdown on only six carries, while also picking up 41 receiving yards and one score.

With the defeat, Gateway broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-6. As for Tohopekaliga, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
