Basketball Game Preview: Newman Grove/St. Edward Panthers vs. Archangels Catholic Defenders

Newman Grove/St. Edward is on a six-game streak of home losses, Archangels Catholic a three-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck will change on Tuesday. The Newman Grove/St. Edward Panthers will host the Archangels Catholic Defenders at 6:00 p.m.

Last Saturday, Newman Grove/St. Edward came up short against Fullerton and fell 44-35.

Despite their defeat, Newman Grove/St. Edward saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Kailey Patzel, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 16 boards, was perhaps the best of all. Patzel is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: she's pulled down at least nine every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Katelyn Werts, who posted 13 points and six boards.

Even though they lost, Newman Grove/St. Edward smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in nine consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Archangels Catholic against Heartland Lutheran on Friday as the squad secured a 49-20 win. The Defenders have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matchups by 29 points or more this season.

Newman Grove/St. Edward's loss dropped their record down to 1-14. As for Archangels Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 11-6.
