Softball Recap: Cave Spring Starts Season with Win at Home

Cave Spring gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Northside Vikings a 5-0 shutout. The Knights have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Vikings, too.

Caitlyn Karnes made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. Karnes was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Abigail Bradberry, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Jovie Miller, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Cave Spring hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in six consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cave Spring will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Lord Botetourt at 5:00 p.m. on March 31st. As for Northside, they will face off against Glenvar at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Northside is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak dating back to last season.
