Softball Game Preview: Newton Eagles vs. Carterville Lions

Newton hasn't had much luck against Carterville recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Eagles will square off against the Lions at 6:00 p.m. Newton is coming into the game hot, having won their last six games.

Newton is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Columbia a 1-0 shutout.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Carterville duked it out with Anna-Jonesboro on Saturday. The Lions came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 4-1. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Carterville's victory bumped their record up to 27-4. As for Newton, their win bumped their record up to 26-2.

Newton suffered a grim 8-1 defeat to Carterville in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
