Basketball Recap: Wakefield Comes Up Short

Wakefield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They received a blow as they fell 46-31 to the Ponca Indians. If the Trojans were looking for revenge after losing 49-33 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.

When it comes to explaining why Wakefield lost, don't look at Jacob Birkley. Despite the final result, he went 7 of 9 en route to 18 points and seven rebounds. The dominant performance gave Birkley a new career-high in points.

Wakefield's loss dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Ponca, they pushed their record up to 10-1 with the victory, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season.

Wakefield will face off against Wisner-Pilger at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Ponca, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 45-41 defeat against O'Neill on the 11th.
