Preview: Carver A&T Wildcats vs. Pikesville Panthers
The Carver A&T Wildcats will head out on the road to square off against the Pikesville Panthers at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Carver A&T posted their closest victory yet this season on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Perry Hall and snuck past 42-40.
Among those leading the charge was Laila Brandon, who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds and six steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Elisah Guity, who scored 15 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Pikesville came tearing into Wednesday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 40.4 points) and they left with even more momentum. They claimed a resounding 79-33 win over Patapsco on the road. Pikesville has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matchups by 23 points or more this season.
Pikesville's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mariah Jones-Bey, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 assists. Another player making a difference was Bree Taylor, who scored 17 points along with three steals.
Carver A&T's win bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Pikesville, they pushed their record up to 11-2 with that victory, which was their 15th straight on the road.
Carver A&T was taken down by Pikesville 65-22 in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Carver A&T was down 37-7.
