Baseball Game Preview: Elverado Falcons vs. Woodlawn Cardinals

The Elverado Falcons will venture away from home to take on the Woodlawn Cardinals at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Elverado is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.

Cobden hit Elverado with a nine-run fourth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Falcons fell 12-8 to the Appleknockers.

Meanwhile, while Woodlawn put up some runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Lebanon. The Cardinals put the hurt on the Greyhounds with a sharp 9-0 victory.

JW Morgan made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over 4.1 innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gianni Cheatam, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Woodlawn is undefeated when Cheatam posts two or more runs, but 1-11 otherwise.

Woodlawn's record now sits at 4-11. As for Elverado, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-16.

Everything went Elverado's way against Woodlawn in their previous matchup back in May of 2023, as Elverado made off with a 10-3 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
