Baseball Game Preview: Monticello Mustangs vs. Fluvanna County Flying Flucos

Monticello is 1-9 against Fluvanna County since March of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Mustangs will take on the Flying Flucos at 6:30 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Monticello took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They put the hurt on Orange County with a sharp 8-2 win. The Mustangs not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 17th (when they won 24-2).

Monticello got a great performance from Brayden Nash as he tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits.

At the plate, Owen Sexton was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Gavin Halliday also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Fluvanna County and Goochland meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. The Flying Flucos were the clear victors by an 11-3 margin over the Bulldogs. Considering the Flying Flucos have won four contests by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Monticello has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Fluvanna County, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
