Recap: New Iberia Yellowjackets vs. Peabody Warhorses
On Thursday, the New Iberia Yellowjackets faced the Peabody Warhorses in a battle between two of the state's top teams. New Iberia suffered a rough 49-28 defeat at the hands of Peabody. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points New Iberia has scored all season.
New Iberia's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Austin Delahoussaye, who scored seven points. The team also got some help courtesy of Wayne Randall-bashay, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and four blocks.
New Iberia struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Peabody pulled down 28 offensive rebounds.
Justin Burns continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Peabody, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 15 rebounds. The match was Burns' tenth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jordan Mathews, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
New Iberia's defeat dropped their record down to 10-3. As for Peabody, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-2.
New Iberia won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against St. Martinville at 3:00 p.m. on December 29, 2023. Hopefully St. Martinville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Thursday. Peabody won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Lafayette at 7:30 p.m. on December 29, 2023. Lafayette is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
