Baseball Game Preview: McCutcheon Mavericks vs. Western Panthers

The McCutcheon Mavericks will challenge the Western Panthers at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.

McCutcheon easily dispatched Danville on Wednesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Mavericks fell just short of North Central by a score of 8-6 on Thursday. The Mavericks' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Jake Winger was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Western, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Anderson a 9-0 shutout on Friday. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Western's win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for McCutcheon, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-5-1.
