Volleyball Recap: Wheatland Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Noah Xiong and Peyton Yang

If Wheatland was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Marysville on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Pirates fell just short of the Bear River Bruins by a score of 3-2 on Wednesday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bruins this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 back in March.

Wheatland took a 2-1 lead headed into the fourth set, but sadly they lost the next two. The final score came out to 25-27, 25-16, 18-25, 25-14, 15-7.

Despite the loss, Wheatland had strong showings from Peyton Yang, who had five digs and two aces, and Noah Xiong, who had 15 digs and one assist. Xiong has been hot, having posted ten or more digs the last five times he's played. Darrius Birts was another key player, getting ten assists and five digs.

With the defeat, Wheatland broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 12-12. As for Bear River, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-4 record this season.

As of now, neither Wheatland nor Bear River have any future games scheduled.
