Basketball Recap: Bonanza Falls Despite Big Games from Symyah Mikell and Naysharri Dunklin

Bonanza lost against Valley back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Bonanza Bengals lost 50-24 to the Valley Vikings. The Bengals were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 31-6.

Bonanza's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Naysharri Dunklin, who posted ten points and three steals, and Symyah Mikell, who had four points in addition to six rebounds and five blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Elsie Moore, who put up four points and five rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Bonanza and nudges their season record down to 1-3. As for Valley, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-1.

Bonanza will challenge Legacy at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Legacy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Bonanza likes a good challenge. As for Valley, they will face off against Cheyenne at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Valley's defense has only allowed 26.2 points per game this season, so Cheyenne's offense will have their work cut out for them.
