Baseball Recap: Zephyrhills Wins Going Away Against Fivay

Zephyrhills never got on the board in their matchup last Monday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Fivay on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 16-0 margin over the Falcons. Considering the Bulldogs' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Traiten Costello made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double. Zephyrhills is undefeated when Costello posts three or more RBI, but 4-15 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nicholas Purcell, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Zephyrhills' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-15 when he doesn't). Colin O'Malley also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Zephyrhills' victory bumped their record up to 7-15. As for Fivay, they dropped their record down to 0-19 with the loss, which was their 20th straight at home dating back to last season.

Zephyrhills has already played their next matchup, a 10-0 defeat against Wesley Chapel on the 10th. As for Fivay, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 15-0 loss against Weeki Wachee on the 10th.
