Baseball Recap: Oak Grove Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Oak Grove waltzed into their game on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They put the hurt on the Pearl Pirates with a sharp 9-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Oak Grove got a great performance from Gage Thompson as he struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the most strikeouts Thompson has posted since back in March of 2024.

At the plate, Eric Booth Jr was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He has become a key player for Oak Grove: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Eli Wheat, who scored a run and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Oak Grove pushed their record up to 12-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Pearl, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-8.

Looking ahead, Oak Grove will take on Meridian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Pearl, they will square off against Morton at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
