Basketball Recap: Zion Ibekwe's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Bigtyme Prep Academy over Varsity Opponent

BigTyme Prep Academy came up into this matchup off a tough 20-point loss on Friday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Varsity Opponent by a score of 50-47 on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Bears have suffered against Varsity Opponent since January 5, 2024.

BigTyme Prep Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zion Ibekwe, who went 6 for 13 on his way to 18 points and eight boards. Ibekwe's afternoon made it ten games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Njoroge Nganga was another key player, putting up ten points and eight rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for BigTyme Prep Academy and nudges their season record down to 12-11.

BigTyme Prep Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on North Central Texas Academy at 6:30 p.m. on February 4th. As for Varsity Opponent, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 65-54 loss against Marshall Christian Academy on the 25th.
