League recap: Hennessey extends winning streak with victory over Tonkawa

2A District 1 recap November 5, 2013

Hennessey added to the longest winning streak in 2A District 1 this week by beating Tonkawa, 52-15. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Eagles.

Hennessey was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating the Buccaneers. Rick Luetjen's team came in at 22 in the state poll after placing at number 28 last week.

Tony Mendoza threw for 257 yards and 5 touchdowns. He was 12-15 with 0 interceptions.

Turner Reed made the biggest impact on defense this week as Chisholm bested Newkirk. The 5-foot-10 senior grabbed 1 interception and racked up 1 sack.

Darreal Williams was the best running back in the league this week. In 17 carries, he ran for 143 yards as Perry beat the Tigers. Teammate Hunter Condit added to the ground attack by rushing for 21 yards.

Thanks to the talents of Taggart Brown and Bryce Stewart, Chisholm has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Brown leads the league in passing with 1,440 yards, while Stewart has rushed for 1,004 yards this season. The Eagles' Edgar Fierro leads the league in receiving yards with 420 on 31 catches.

An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Hennessey takes on Alva. The Eagles are currently in first, while the Goldbugs are in third.

Alva led 2A District 1 in scoring this week after putting up 61 points on Dibble.
