Softball Recap: Gulf Coast Comes Up Short

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Gulf Coast couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Riverdale Raiders on Thursday. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Sharks couldn't push the score so high this time.

Keyah Kamara spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 19 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Gulf Coast saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emilie Perez, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases.

Gulf Coast has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 17-8 record this season. As for Riverdale, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-12.

As of now, neither Gulf Coast nor the Raiders have any future games scheduled.
