Baseball Game Preview: Del Norte Knights vs. Rio Grande Ravens

Del Norte is 0-9 against Rio Grande since March of 2017 but things could change on Saturday. The Knights will look to defend their home field against the Ravens at 10:00 a.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Having struggled with ten defeats in a row, Del Norte turned things around against Oak Grove Classical Academy on Thursday. They walked away with a 12-9 win over the Owls. The Knights' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Uzziah Bookland was excellent, going 3-for-4 with three runs. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Rio Grande had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Hornets as they made off with a 16-2 victory. The Ravens might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by nine runs or more this season.

Rio Grande's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-9. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Del Norte, their win bumped their record up to 2-14-1.
