Softball Recap: Pope County Pirates vs. Benton Rangers
Pope County extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping their season record down to 7-16 in the process. They came up short against the Benton Rangers, falling 17-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Rangers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-6 back in April.
Jaydan Holmes made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run and three RBI. Bella Fasolo was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
As for Benton, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 16-14. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matches by six runs or more this season.
On Benton's side, the team relied heavily on Malia Webb (2025), who went 3-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those two triples gave Webb (2025) a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucy Giacone (2025), who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
Pope County didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 9-0 loss against Hardin County on the 20th. As for Benton, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 10-0 defeat against Mt. Carmel on the 21st.
