Softball Recap: Carmichaels Takes Down Serra Catholic in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Carmichaels had no problem doing just that on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 9-0 margin over the Serra Catholic Eagles. The Mighty Mikes might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by eight runs or more this season.

The result came thanks to Bailey Barnyak's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Kaitlyn Waggett was excellent, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Duski Staggers, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

The win keeps Carmichaels at an undefeated 15-0. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 9.9 runs this season. As for Serra Catholic, with the defeat, they broke their eight-game winning streak and moved their record to 12-6.

Coming up, Carmichaels will challenge West Greene at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Pioneers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Mighty Mikes' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Serra Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
