The Murray Spartans will challenge the Stansbury Stallions at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Stansbury will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Murray extended their winning streak to three on Friday. The Spartans never let Park City get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory.
Savana Whitlock made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over six innings pitched. Whitlock was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zaylee Winterhalder, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Jaidyn Gansauge, who went 2-for-4 with three runs and one triple.
Murray kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 14 hits in six consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Stansbury got the win against Park City on Thursday by a conclusive 22-4.
Tessa Baker was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, six RBI, and four runs. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Anaiya Rogers was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.
Stansbury has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Murray, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Murray hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.3 home runs per game. However, it's not like Stansbury struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Murray might still be hurting after the 17-1 loss they got from Stansbury in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
