Basketball Recap: Big Piney Comes Up Short

After flying high against Moorcroft on Saturday, Big Piney came back down to earth. The Big Piney Punchers were just a bucket shy of victory on Saturday and fell 47-46 to the Wright Panthers. The Punchers lost against the Panthers in their previous head to head back in December of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 57-31 score last time.

Wright was led to victory by Briana Meza and Anaeli Salas. Meza dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Salas went 7 of 17 on her way to 19 points. Salas is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season.

Big Piney's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Wright, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.

Big Piney will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Rich at 12:00 p.m. on January 11, 2025. Wright will also get a bit of a break before their next matchup: they'll face off against Pine Bluffs at 2:30 p.m. on January 10, 2025.
