Basketball Recap: Rio Rico Takes a Loss

Rio Rico was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat dating back to last season. They had to suffer through a 100-38 loss at the hands of the Buena Colts. The Hawks lost against the Colts in their previous head to head back in February of 2021, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 86-60 score last time.

Julian Duran had an outrageously good game for Buena as he went 12 of 15 from beyond the arc en route to 38 points along with five boards and three steals. The contest was Duran's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamin Booker, who went 7 of 10 on his way to 16 points in addition to six boards and four steals.

Rio Rico's loss dropped their record down to 0-10. As for Buena, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-3.

Rio Rico will venture away from home to square off against Mica Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mica Mountain knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matchups -- so hopefully Rio Rico likes a good challenge. Buena and Pusch Ridge Christian Academy will compete for holiday cheer at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Buena is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.1 points per game this season.
