Softball Recap: State College Wins Going Away Against Cedar Cliff

State College won the last time they faced Cedar Cliff and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Little Lions put the hurt on the Colts with a sharp 11-3 win. The Little Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by eight runs or more this season.

Paige Moriarta made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 17 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jessica Hawbaker, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Kennedy Stahl was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and one double.

State College kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.

State College is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Cedar Cliff, they are on a 19-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-13.

State College will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Colts: the pair will be back at it again later today.
