Preview: Victoria West Warriors vs. Victoria East Titans
The Victoria West Warriors will head out on the road to face off against the Victoria East Titans at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Victoria West's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last three matches.
Victoria West pushed their score all the way to 45 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 52-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of Miller. While losing is never fun, Victoria West can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 579th, while Miller is ranked 137th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Kamauri Montgomery, who rushed for 223 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.7 yards per carry. Montgomery was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 60 yards. Another player making a difference was Camden Repper, who threw for 281 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.8 yards per attempt.
Meanwhile, Victoria East entered their tilt with Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Victoria East snuck past Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial with a 14-10 win on Friday. The score was all tied up 7-7 at the break, but Victoria East was the (much) better team in the second half.
Victoria East's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Bryson Ortega, who picked up 94 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and Kason Kolle, who threw for 177 yards and two touchdowns.
Victoria West now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Victoria East, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's matchup: Victoria West has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 261.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Victoria East struggles in that department as they've been averaging 244.8 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Victoria West beat Victoria East 33-23 in their previous meeting back in November of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for Victoria West since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
