Greensboro Day School hasn't had much luck against Wesleyan Christian Academy recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Bengals will be playing in front of their home fans against the Trojans at 4:00 p.m. Greensboro Day School is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Greensboro Day School is headed into Tuesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game on Saturday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of Westchester Country Day.
Oliver Fisher made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Ray, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wesleyan Christian Academy). They put the hurt on Charlotte Country Day School with a sharp 17-6 victory on Friday. Considering the Trojans have won eight games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Mikey Papciak and Nick Papciak were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Papciak pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Nick tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. Mikey also tossed a walk, which is notable because Wesleyan Christian Academy is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 9-10 otherwise. At the plate, Papciak went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI, while Nick went 1-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Those two RBI gave Mikey a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Blake Goff, who went 3-for-4 with four runs and one double. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brandon Loehr, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs.
The win got Wesleyan Christian Academy back to even at 11-11. As for Greensboro Day School, their loss dropped their record down to 9-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Greensboro Day School has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Wesleyan Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Greensboro Day School suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Wesleyan Christian Academy when the teams last played back in March. Will the Bengals have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
