Preview: Pioneer Mustangs vs. Lincoln Lions
The Pioneer Mustangs will head out on the road to square off against the Lincoln Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Pioneer is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Pioneer suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Friday. They were beaten by Westmont 61-27. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Pioneer has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Lincoln waltzed into their matchup on Friday with three straight wins but they left with four. They walked away with a 66-53 victory over Piedmont Hills.
Lincoln can attribute much of their success to Mussie Yimer, who scored 19 points, and Joseph Shelton, who scored 24 points. Shelton is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Caleb Hooks, who scored eight points.
Pioneer's defeat dropped their record down to 10-5. As for Lincoln, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a massive bump to their 10-6 record this season.
Pioneer and Lincoln were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, but Pioneer came up empty-handed after a 45-44 loss. Can Pioneer avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
