Two dominant guards in Lane Allison and Houston Guesman are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The West Greene Pioneers will head out on the road to take on the Jefferson-Morgan Rockets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
West Greene is headed into the contest having just suffered their biggest defeat since February 21st on Saturday. They were beaten by Bentworth 47-20. The matchup marked the Pioneers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Allison was West Greene's leading scorer, having posted eight points. Matthew Wassil held things down on the boards with five rebounds. Patrick Durbin took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with three assists.
Meanwhile, Jefferson-Morgan entered their tilt with Carmichaels on Saturday with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. They claimed a resounding 68-27 victory over the Mighty Mikes. With the Rockets ahead 41-8 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
West Greene better keep an eye on Jeremiah Robertson. He was instrumental in Jefferson-Morgan's win, shooting 4-for-6 from deep and dropping a double-double on 17 points and 15 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jase Bedilion, who went 8 of 11 on his way to 18 points.
Jefferson-Morgan smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in nine consecutive games.
Jefferson-Morgan's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-2. As for West Greene, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: West Greene has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 29.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Jefferson-Morgan struggles in that department as they've been averaging 35.3 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
West Greene was able to grind out a solid victory over Jefferson-Morgan in their previous matchup back in February, winning 38-30. The rematch might be a little tougher for West Greene since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
