Basketball Game Preview: Monessen Greyhounds vs. Fort Cherry Rangers

The Monessen Greyhounds will head out to square off against the Fort Cherry Rangers at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. One thing working in Monessen's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four matches.

In Wednesday's Canine Competition, Monessen came out on top. They took their game against Bethlehem Center on Wednesday 63-52. Given the Greyhounds' advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 222nd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 502nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Fort Cherry's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 43-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of Chartiers-Houston.

Monessen's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-4. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.3 points per game. As for Fort Cherry, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7.

Monessen strolled past Fort Cherry in their previous meeting back in December of 2024 by a score of 65-50. Will Monessen repeat their success, or does Fort Cherry have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
